  On average, three treatments of the same area are needed to achieve the desired results. Depending on the person and condition of the hair, more treatments may be necessary. However, most people rarely need more than six treatments unless hormonal imbalances or other factors prove to be an issue. No laser hair removal machine is able to provide permanent hair removal. Most lasers are only able to result in significant hair reduction. This means that some percentage of the hair will often grow back. In patients with white or blond hair, complete regrowth is likely within about a year. In patients with dark hair and light skin, hair will be significantly reduced, but some hairs that were in the dormant phase may become active following treatment. This will result in partial hair regrowth in between the monthly sessions. Generally, after the completion of a standard treatment, hair will be kept at bay for up to 2 years. Annual maintenance sessions may be necessary to deter full regrowth.

Tips and Warnings

• Laser hair removal increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight, making it more prone to sunburn and sun damage. Thus, it is best to undergo treatments during the colder winter months and avoid sun exposure at all costs. Moreover, exposing laser treated skin to sunlight can result in significant discoloration and sunspots that may be permanent. Also, be aware that laser treatments can be somewhat painful especially in more sensitive areas such as the underarms or bikini area. Some people find that it helps to rub numbing cream on the area before treatment to dull the pain.

Laser hair removal is quickly becoming the method of choice for the removal of unwanted hair. Most of us have little time to spare, and are too busy to deal with an on-going need to pluck, shave, wax, use depilatories, etc. Thus we are brought to the question: how long does laser hair removal last?


The amount of any hair regrowth after laser hair removal will vary from person to person (but hair regrowth occurs less after laser hair removal than any other method). If and when hair regrowth occurs, the client generally goes back for additional sessions. From that point on, the time it takes for hair to regrow should take longer, after each consecutive session.


Some clinics offer "no hair regrowth guarantees", which means they'll do additional treatments on you within a stated
amount of time, for no addional cost. Some offer as much as a 
3 year guarantee. Become familar with your clinic's offer before you sign a contract.


Shop competively -- but make sure any clinic you are considering is reputable, and has been in business at least a few years. Investigate the clinic's past client reviews and feedback by "Googling" the clinics name, city and the word "reviews".


Keep in mind that at times unscrupulous competitors will leave false negative reviews. But if you see many negative reviews for a clinic, from a number of different sources, that may be a red flag to find another hair removal provider.


It will take around four treatments (on average) to obtain the best results with laser hair removal. After that, many patients  will end up with permanent hair removal. But as stated above, some may find that additional treatments are necessary to get rid of their unwanted hair once and for all.


Unfortunately, there are those who'll find that laser hair removal has little or no effectiveness. In general, this is due to their hair being of too light a shade, or from a lack of enough difference between their skin and hair color.
